Gabapentin (Neurontin) and hydrocodone (Vicodin) Drug Interactions
Hydrocodone is a semi synthetic opioid derivative of codeine. Hydrocodone is used orally as an analgesic and antitussive. Gabapentin is a drug used to treat seizures and post herpetic neuralgia. When gabapentin is taken with hydrocodone, interaction between gabapentin and hydrocodone ranges from mild to moderate. They can be taken together, but these drugs have the tendency of sedation therefore care must be taken before taking this medication in combination. They show a synergistic effect by enhancing sedation effect in the body. A person may feel drowsiness, fatigue, and sleep. They may experience additive central nervous and respiratory adverse effects such as dizziness, weakness, nervousness, restlessness and heavy breathing.
