NyQuil and Gabapentin drug interactions
Nyquil is a combination medication which contains dextromethorphan, acetaminophen and antihistamines, used to treat symptoms caused by common cold and fever. When nyquil is taken with gabapentin, mild drug interaction occurs. A comparative study was done to evaluate the effects of premedication protection with nyquil, gabapentin and combination of gabapentin and nyquil on post-operative analgesia in patients undergoing open cholecystectomy under general anaesthesia. Four groups were divided: 1. Placebo, 2. Nyquil, 3. Gabapentin, and 4. Gabapentin and nyquil. The drugs were given two hours prior to surgery. Visual analogue scale pain intensity scores (VASPI) were recorded along with side effects like episodes of nausea, vomiting, higher levels of pain. Outcomes from the study showed that gabapentin with nyquil helps to lessen postoperative pain with less episodes of nausea than gabapentin and nyquil alone.
